We sell Paint & Decals
If you have ever heard two or more Ford tractor owners discussing the color of their tractors, you have probably heard a disagreement. There seems to be as many beliefs about color as there are tractors.
Since we remanufacture vintage Fords, we were as concerned as everyone else about the proper colors for our products. So,we took an aggressive approach to the problem.
In order to be as accurate as possible, we took original Ford stock that had never been used (and had never been faded by the sun) to be color matched. We found the following:
2N and 9N ? the original is a very dark gray ? much darker than the vast majority of restorations that we have seen.
8N ? The red is "RED/red", not the "orange/red" that is used on later tractors. This is consistent with the fact that Ford changed the color in 1958. Unfortunately, the old formula was lost. This led to the fact that (1) part number actually referred to (2) colors ? Pre and Post 1958.
The 8N "Gray" has been described as "green/gray" or even as "tan". The color that we use matches the original product.
If you are interested in using our paint, we sell it by the gallon we also recommend (1) pint of hardener per gallon of paint for a durable finish which can be rubbed out.
For a stain and fade resistant "show" finish, we recommend an acrylic clear coat to finish the job.
