Back to Topics joel banks 2010-06-15 04:03:19 | I had a problem with a 1950 model 8n with a front mount distributor. It would crank up ok then would be hard to start. suffered with this for years...fixed it this spring. I found the large C shaped spring that held the distributor together. (if you take the dist. out and look where the points and capacitor mount you will see a large C spring that is roumd and fastens inside the housing, it snaps into a groove.). I found that the clearance between the spring on the coil that sits into the Brass screw was shorting out against the C clip. I took the clip out and wraped a few wraps of electrical tape and used liquid electrical tape on the coil spring. It cranks and runs better than it ever has....not hard to start at all now. Hope this helps.
