I am looking at mine right now, I am restoring my 9N so it is all apart.

Can you remake the thin copper strap from the Old Points spring, should just have to cut it off and drill one hole.

after you reinstall it make sure you have continuity from the condensor screw to the points. also make sure you reseat the coil properley, and make sure the rotor is pionting the same way it was when you took it out, if that dose not work move around 180 degrees from where it was you may have put in in backwards???

also take care to make sure the distributor is completely seated to the engine before you tighten it down, so you dont break one of the ears of of the distributor

Good morning to all.

I have a question regarding the front mounted distributor. When tuning up the red bellied mule this weekend, the strip of copper that runs from the Condenser screw (not the hold down but the contact screw) broke off. Is this strip of copper critical to the operation of the distributor?

I attempted to make another strip from a copper pipe strap and got it all back together. Unfortunately, the distributor made no spark and the tractor would not fire.

I replaced the points and condenser with a horrible substitute for Blue Streak points. Needless to say, I returned the cheap tune up kit and plan to order from Tom.

I am at a loss for why I get no spark. I did connect the condenser directly to the point in an attempt to get some kind of spark to the plugs but all the tractor did was crank and produce no fire.

The only thing I can think of is the thin strip of copper that runs from the Condenser to the points. Anyone think I'm on the right track? Also is this part something that can be ordered?
