Sounds as though you have some sticking valves, take the side cover off then you can check and likely free them up.

Take the flat head off see if the pistons are in fact moveing its difficult to tell with a screw drive as the plug hole is offset a tad from the cylinder it self  if the are moving try putting automatic trans fluid in there to free up carbon deposits on the rings let soak a day or 2 if you do this

Could be all 4 piston arms are broken but you would hear it rattle around real bad. I would first think the piston rings were all frozen tight to the piston but you said no movement from the pistons. Drain the oil into a clean oil pan and see what comes out? I would try squirting PB Blast in all of the cylinders it may be frozen rings except you said no piston movement.

I know I must be overlooking something. After several 8Ns, a 9N, a couple of NAAs and an 860 and a 960, I haven"t seen this yet...

I picked up a parts tractor (8N) and decided to check the engine. The starter turns the engine just fine... fan blade, generator and all.

Not a single cylinder has compression.... zero, zip. Not a single cylinder travels to the top when I held a screw driver in the spark plug holes.... no movement.

Is it really that bad? What could this be?

Thanks In Advance!

Patrick
