Chassis Disassembly

Chris starts the process by spraying all the parts to be removed with "PB Penetrating Catalyst". We generally let the parts soak for 30 to 40 minutes before we start "busting our knuckles".

The next step is to drain all fluids including gasoline, hydraulic fluid and radiator coolant and engine oil
|
|
|
|
At this point, Chris can start removing the battery, plug wires, air cleaner, air cleaner tube, carburetor, and (2) bolts on the top of the transmission that are holding the battery box.

Sometimes it just a lot easier with someone on each side. Here you see Mike helping Chris with the hood. All the sheetmetal will be set on a separate cart for later repair and/or painting. All of the parts for each tractor are kept together for reassembly later.

Several steps have taken place - jack under the transmission, both radius arms and both steering arms have been loosened and the front axle support is being unbolted.
|
|
The front axle assembly (with radius and steering arms still attached) can be temporarily removed to facilitate the removal of the engine.
|
|
|
|
After strapping the engine to the hoist, Chris removes the (9) remaining bolts connecting the engine to the transmission.
|
|
The engine slips out fairly easy at this point. The engine will be sent to another department for remanufacturing while others continue with the rest of the chassis and components.

|
|
This is a small bracket that holds the transmission housing . The brackets are placed on both sides and rest over the top of the radius arms.
|
|
The radius and steering arms are now reattached to the tractor. The tractor now moves to the next "station" where the actual remanufacturing process begins.
